HomeStart Scotland

About Us

Hi, I’m Dan – the founder of HomeStart Scotland.

When I bought my first home, I was shocked by how many things I didn’t know about the process. From hidden fees to confusing terminology, I found myself constantly wondering why no one ever taught us this in school. It felt like I was navigating a system designed to be complicated, rather than something that should feel exciting and achievable.

Now, as more of my friends and family begin their own journeys to buy their first homes, I keep seeing the same story unfold. So many people, through no fault of their own, have no idea where to start. Having worked in the property industry facilitating viewings, and now working in tech, I realised I could combine my industry knowledge and digital skills to build something that makes a real difference.

The Scottish property system is unique, with its own rules, processes, and costs – yet there’s no clear, accessible place that explains it all in a simple way. That’s why I created HomeStart Scotland: to level the playing field.

Our mission is simple: to break down the barriers to homeownership in Scotland. Whether you’re a first-time buyer, a mover, or just starting to think about buying a home, we want to provide you with the tools, resources, and guidance you need to make informed decisions and take the next step with confidence.

This isn’t about selling you a dream – it’s about giving you real knowledge, honest insights, and practical tools that actually help. From budgeting calculators to moving cost breakdowns, mortgage guidance to step-by-step buying stages, we’re building a platform designed for people like you – because we’ve been there too.

If you want to get on the property ladder, we’re here to help you make it happen.
